Day 30 – A photo of yourself taken today and 3 good things that have happened over the last 30 days.
Day 3 - 10 things you hate in lolita.
(a lot of these are really petty, because there’s not really anything that I ‘hate’ so it’s more of a ‘10 things I kind of sort of dislike in lolita’ and I still really struggled to get more than 6.)
- When people don’t cut the bangs on their wigs. Wigs are becoming more and more popular, and I love them myself. But even if you want to keep side swept bangs, you really should trim/style it to stop it from looking blocky.
- People who say “I want to start dressing lolita but the community is too bitchy”. The community isn’t bitchy, but if that sort of thing bothers you then stay away from negative communities (online or offline). Honestly though, you’ll find most comms are very friendly and welcoming.
- When people on the street take my picture without asking. I know we’re wearing a weird/different fashion, but at least have the decency to ask. There must be so many pictures of me eating or mid-sentence on people’s phone!
- In the same vein, people who think it’s okay to make inappropriate comments to you, just because you’re wearing something different. I know we stand out, but that doesn’t make it okay to suddenly lose all social ettiquette and be rude to my face.
- Sizing. The bust and waist difference for most lolita clothes is so awkward for me. The bust fits but then the waist is too big. I usually rely on back-lacing and waist-ties to get a better fit.
- Can’t try before you buy. Since most sales take place online, I can’t try on things before buying them so I might wait ages for something to arrive in the post and then find out it doesn’t fit.
- People who say “you can’t be x, y or z and a lolita!” You can have any hobby/interests and wear lolita. It’s a fashion first.
- Likewise, people who think they’re special because they wear lolita and like video games/metal/whatever. Lolita attracts all kinds of people with various interests. You’re not the only one who likes those things.
- When you have a picnic meet, and people are supposed to bring some food to share, it almost always ends up being sweet things! Savoury stuff is good too and you can make things that are just as pretty as cakes.
- Lolita takes a long time to put on. Sometimes that can be very theraputic, but when you’re running late for a meet up and you are trying to stick your false eyelashes on and layer up your petticoats, it’s a real pain.

Day 2 - 10 things you love in lolita.
- Construction details. I especially love pintucks on a dress. There’s just so much design put into a lot of the clothes, I can’t help but love it!
- There’s so many different styles. I’m always facinated by how different the different styles of lolita can look, but at the same time it’s still got a similar feel. It means you can change up your look to something that is more comfortable to you.
- The poof. It’s really hard for me to explain, but wearing a petticoat makes me feel like I’m a princess or a fancy lady. I just love that feeling of being dressed up.
- Cat prints. I just can’t help it, I’m a sucker for cat prints.
- Actually make that any animal print. Especially if it’s a more ‘realistic’ looking animal.
- The feeling of elegance. This is so hard to explain again, but when I see photos of beautiful lolitas and it’s just so elegant, it makes me really happy.
- Meet ups with my friends. I adore getting all dressed up and seeing my friends, having tea and sandwiches/cake, doing some shopping etc. it’s just so much fun!
- The community as a whole. I think it’s wonderful having such a huge online community. Being able to talk to anyone about their opinions on particular styles, who likes the latest releases etc.
- The creativity. There is so much creativity in this fashion, whether it’s clothing designs and prints (brand designs, indie designs) or photoshoots, or whatever, I’m just so blown away by the kinds of things that people come up with.
- Being girly! Wearing a beautiful dress, doing your hair, make up and nails perfectly etc. It’s such an amazing feeling, and whenever I feel sad or stressed, I’ll get dressed up in my frills and have a nice girly session.

Day 1 - 10 things about your lolita bubble.
- My lolita style varies between sweet, classic and occasionally gothic. If I had to pick one style, it would probably be classic, but why limit yourself if you love other styles too?
- I’m terrible for impulse buying! This means my wardrobe is horribly imbalanced. I don’t have enough blouses and accessories to pull off amazing outfits. Or outfits suitable for certain seasons. I should probably buy more blouses…
- Animal prints are slowly starting to take over my wardrobe.
- I prefer buying from Taobao and indie shops rather than any of the brands. They just suit my style more. That being said, Innocent World does seem to suit me best out of all of them, and they make up a good chunk of my wardrobe.
- I think it’s really fun to get dressed up in my frills and meet up with my friends, but the thought of going to bigger meets makes me feel nervous because I’m still learning how to dress nicely.
- I don’t consider myself a ‘lifestyle lolita’.
- I’m scared of buying skirts, because I don’t have suitable blouses and I don’t really know how to coordinate them. However I just bought two skirts and I’m determined to learn how to make them look cute!
- I bought my first lolita clothes in 2008, but my mum hid them in the attic for over a year. I’ve only really been wearing lolita properly for about 2 or 3 years. Still a baby in this fashion!
- I prefer wigs to my real hair. Wigs just behave so much better! I can’t dye my hair because of work, but if I could I would dye it an ashy lavender colour like my favourite wig.
- I have some amazing lolita friends. The only downside to them is that I don’t get to see them often enough. I especially love Rachel and Kairi, because they were my first loli friends and the ones I keep in touch with the most.
See Rachel’s entry here: http://raralikeaskirt.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/30-day-lolita-challenge-day-1.html
It’s not the outfit I really wanted to do with this dress, but I just couldn’t resist not wearing it any longer! So here is Mozarabic Chant JSK. It’s so perfect! I want to wear it all the time. But first, I must get a new blouse. And new shoes, because my blue shoes always show up black in these photos.
JSK: Krad Lanrete’s Mozarabic Chant
I can’t wait to twin this dress with my friend Rachel!
JSK, headband: Innocent World’s Gertrude
Rubbish photo, I’m sorry. I’m really disappointed that the tights didn’t show up! They match my blouse and have textured polka dots all over them. Anyway, I’m just testing out some outfits for a photoshoot soon, so there will hopefully be better pictures of this outfit sooooooon!
The JSK is from Lily of the Valley Designs, and I honestly just adore this print (Forest of the Unicorn). It’s so gorgeous.
JSK, Beret, pompoms: “Missing Letter Keys and Rabbit” by BaroquePurse: Vera Pelle
Blouse, Shoes: Offbrand
I’m sorry my petticoat isn’t very poofy. It’s more of a casual look anyway.
JSK, headdress: “Forest of the Unicorn” by Lily of the Valley DesignsCollar: Shirley Deer
Everything else: Offbrand
Words cannot express how much I love this JSK! It reminds me so much of The Last Unicorn.
One day I will go to the Ghibli museum.
